Lois Krause, LVCYT
Lois Krause has been a certified Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga Teacher (LVCYT) since 2020, a Senior Fitness Instructor through the Senior Fitness Association since 2014, and holds an Advanced Gerontology certificate from the Rutgers School of Social Work (2016). Her work reflects a deep commitment to both physical wellness and community care.
Her journey with Chair Yoga began while volunteering at a local skilled nursing facility, where she saw firsthand the joy and empowerment it brought to participants of all mobility levels—including wheelchair users. She was struck not only by how accessible the practice was, but by how beneficial it was for able-bodied participants like herself. That experience planted the seed for what would eventually become Together from Our Chairs.
Lois founded the initiative to unite two of her greatest passions: promoting movement and self-care, and addressing food insecurity in her community. What began as a local effort has grown into a national mission—to inspire others to nurture themselves while helping to nourish others.
Currently, Lois is an adjunct Assistant Professor at Mercer County Community College in the Department of Criminal Justice. She is a graduate of Rider University with undergraduate degrees in Law Enforcement and Sociology, and a Master’s degree in Education. She began her career in Criminal Justice as a Mercer County Probation Officer, working with both adult and juvenile offenders, as well as in the Family Crisis Intervention Unit. The bulk of her career was spent in a variety of roles as a civilian member of the Trenton Police Department. She served as Supervisor of the Youth Services Unit, where she spearheaded numerous early intervention programs and community partnerships to deter juvenile crime. She also served as Police-Community Liaison, Instructor in the police academy, coordinator for the YouthStat program, and hosted a weekly radio program, “Inside Trenton Police.” In addition, she co-hosted a summer radio series with MCCC’s WWFM, “In the Public,” focusing on police-community relations.
